You need to purchase hard drives separate. I use 2 hard drives so there is always a backup in case of failure. So for my configuration 2 x 4TB drives will yield 4TB of available storage space and will continue to run if 1 hard drive dies. Most people use the Western Digital or Seagate NAS drives which are 5400RPM – 5900RPM, I recommend faster drives:
